Lookers VW sponsor 2018 Tenpast Cup in support of the British Heart Foundation

The last 18 months has seen the twins undertake numerous challenges stunts and events, along with many willing friends and team members from across the UK, all to raise funds and awareness for the lifesaving research by the British Heart Foundation. The latest, the 2018 Tenpast Cup.

Having had the support of many partners and sponsors during that time, there have been none more supportive in the adventures and events than the team at Lookers VW Newcastle.

The most recent event, saw the twins take to the football pitch, this time at the home of the Black Cats, the Stadium of Light in Sunderland as they joined forces for the 2018 Tenpast Cup.  The football showdown took place on 20th May 2018, and saw the BHF All-stars take on Nottingham’s St Nics FC in the 2018 Tenpast Cup. This is an annual football Cup that combines and celebrates charity and football. Tenpast, a creative events agency, chooses a different charity each year for it to raise awareness and funds. This year’s designated charity was the British Heart Foundation.

As lead sponsors of the 2018 Tenpast Cup, Lookers VW took centre stage in across all marketing material and led the coverage with the BHF Allstars kit specially designed for the 2018 event. The passion of the team at Lookers VW alongside the community ethos, led to a natural partnership – one we hope will continue moving forward.

The BHF All Stars team was made up of some of the BHF’s most passionate ambassadors from all around the UK.  All-Stars Manager Jim Lynskey is the youngest person in the country to have an LVAD, left ventricular assisted device, which replaces the function of his failing heart.

Andrew Davison, Business Director at Lookers Newcastle said: ”We are delighted to show our continued support for the SIX TIMES OPEN campaign as they raise vital funds and awareness for the British Heart Foundation in this way. Good luck to the whole team taking part in the Tenpast Challenge Cup 2018!” The event is sponsored by VW Lookers.

The match was one of the final fundraising events twins David and Jonathan Stretton Downes have planned for their Six Times Open fundraising campaign aiming to raise £100k for the British Heart Foundation, with pre match reception held at the Roker Hotel in Sunderland, followed by pre match interviews with managers and Head of Business at Lookers, Andrew Davison.

The SIX TIMES OPEN national campaign was launched in January 2017 whilst Jonathan was waiting for his sixth heart surgery. He was born with a hole in the heart and a problem with one of his heart valves.  The brothers wanted to raise funds for vital life-saving research into heart disease for the British Heart Foundation and to challenge and inspire others through adversity.

Jonathan underwent the operation in December 2017, with the campaign having a significant impact in raising awareness showing that an event such as open-heart surgery doesn’t have to define you or dictate your life.

Jonathan Stretton-Downes of Six Times Open, is now recovering well and knows firsthand just how much difference research makes to save and improve lives. Jonathan said ‘’There have been some very close calls over the years; I’ve battled heart failure; emergency surgery and serious infections and it is only because of the research into treatments and techniques that I am alive today!  The campaign is a way of giving something back and to shine a light on the amazing research the British Heart Foundation carries out!’’

The 2018 Tenpast Cup ended with a win for the BHF Allstars after a close fought battle for the cup ended in a 3-2 score line. We wish to place on record a thanks to all the fans who travelled across the UK to make the event such a memorable occasion.
